Brand new entertainment channel &TV has once again highlighted its potency as a strong entrant in the UK’s South Asian entertainment market by coming out as 2nd top rated Indian channel yesterday, 19 May. With a daily reach that crossed 200,000, the channel triumphed in terms of the number of people switching on to it and also with the amount of time they spent watching their favourite shows an important criteria for a channel’s success. Various slots during the day were top watched across all rated South Asian channels.
&TV has been growing in strength since its launch just over a month ago. Viewers’ time spent on the channel has grown by 33% from launch till date whilst weekly ratings have increased by 38%. Over half of its viewers are a lucrative ABC1 audience, with the majority aged just 25-34 years.
The channel has been enhancing its visibility since its launch by highlighting its key properties in a UK wide marketing campaign covering outdoor, radio, print, digital and events. The UK audience will soon be given the chance to win a special autographed item by the king of Bollywood himself, Shah Rukh Khan, who inaugurated the launch of the channel himself in the UK and had his reality show in the launch month.
Coming up in June, viewers have one of the biggest reality show formats in the market to watch out for – The Voice India, starting from 6 June, Saturday and Sunday at 9pm. &TV has garnered a monthly reach touching half a million in its short history, with its dramas and movies proving popular. The shows having a contemporary touch, depicting a progressiveness in viewers’ mindset with an added twist. Recent successes on the channel has been the ongoing popularity of Gangaa, an inspiring story of a child widow who is characterized with a fighting spirit. New series Badii Devrani has also gripped the audience, coming out as second top show in recent weeks.
Badii Devrani, set against the backdrop of Kolkata, is the story of an unusual arranged marriage between an older woman (Reeti) and a younger boy (Vibhor). The story explores the relationship between the Reeti and Vibhor belonging to families who are bitter enemies and getting married due to a twist of fate. Vibhor is the youngest son of the Poddars’ and as a part of a business alliance between the two families, compromises and marries Reeti who is 5 years older to him. Reeti is well educated with a progressive mindset and modern outlook towards life. Will Reeti be able to strike a balance and secure a place for herself in the Poddar family and in Vibhor’s heart given the acrimonious circumstances under which they get married?
