Keeping in line with its emphasis on quality offerings for the entire family, Zee Tamil is launching a new mega-serial named Thalayanai Pookal. This will be the latest addition to the recently revamped list of daily soaps. It is the story of Vedavalli, an intelligent and pragmatic middle-class girl, who gets married into a wealthy joint family and fights to establish her identity and keep the family united. The mega-serial, based on a novel penned by famed writer in the Tamil literary & entertainment space Balakumaran, explores and deals with the family value system along with women empowerment. It seeks to highlight how a strong support system equips one with a selfless attitude, positivity and inner strength to overcome and deal with the day-to-day problems, posed sometimes, by one’s own kith and kin.
Vedavalli, the main protagonist of the story and the elder daughter of Parameswaran, is beautiful, practical and a girl of character. Parameswaran is a childhood friend of Ramanathan, a good natured widower and owner of a chain of consumer durables store called ‘Lakshmi & Co’. Ramanathan has three sons namely Sundara – the responsible and level-headed eldest son, Nagaraj – wayward and alcoholic and Nataraj, the western-educated smart youngster.
Ramanathan, fond of Vedavalli, is keen to have her as his daughter-in-law. Parameswaran backs the idea and Vedavalli is engaged to marry the eldest son Sundara. However, trouble comes in the form of Kalpana, an ambitious and scheming girl working in Lakshmi & Co., vying for Sundara’s attention. She manages to break the alliance between Sundara and Vedavalli taking advantage of a misunderstanding between them and marries him.
A distraught Ramanathan tries to make amends by getting Vedavalli married to his second son Nagaraj. This turns out to be a mismatch. Faced with multiple odds Vedavalli sets out to accomplish the impossible. Will she keep the entire family intact and under one roof? Will she manage to make Kalpana mend her ways? Can she reform and transform her husband? Will her battle be restricted to setting things right in the family or does she get pulled into managing the fortunes of the family’s business empire as well?
